TCC's emphasis on high standards and personal attention align with her values because she sees the necessity of this model of education for the health of our society as a whole. If we are careless with the way we teach our children, what kind of future are we setting up for them and for ourselves? She cares very much about individual empowerment, that people are educated in a way that allows them to advocate for themselves and their rights and freedoms. She cares about our democracy, which depends upon an educated citizenry to function effectively as a government of, by, and for the people.
Meet Mr. Smith
The road to teaching was a winding path for this cavalier gentleman, that quite literally took him around the world. Clay began his career by serving in the USMC (Security Forces) for 6 years and then transitioned to the IT field, working at both NASA (Kennedy Space Center) and the Headquarters of the IRS in Washington D.C. Wanting a change, Clay returned to school and earned a Juris Doctor degree. He went on to co-found and run a successful law firm in Florida for many years.
Realizing that he only has one life to live and everything to give, he joined the US Peace Corps to serve in Youth Development in Morocco for 4 years. If you ask him, he will say it was this experience that grew his passion for teaching. He loved working with the children in Morocco and decided it was time to make a career switch. He has since taught in various schools globally, including schools in Dammam, Saudi Arabia and Karachi, Pakistan.
